Rosemeade students and families participate in National Walk to School Day

Students at Rosemeade ES had an early and active start to their Wednesday morning. To celebrate National Walk to School Day, students and families walked through their local neighborhoods to get to school instead of riding in a car or bus.

Rosemeade’s PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) provided a map with five different walking routes that families could meet to walk to school together safely.. Students were also given a “promise to street safety” document with important safety information to share with their parents and guardians.

“At Rosemeade, we really thrive off our traditions,” said Jamie Saleh, PTA Vice President of community outreach. “Walk to school day is one of our first fall events, and it is always a great time for the whole family.”

Walkers were greeted outside the campus by Rosemeade staff and PTA, as well as Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick, upon their arrival. Creekview HS drumline, cheerleaders and the Chevals dance team performed bringing high energy and excitement as the students began their school day.

“We are so fortunate for the support from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Mayor Babick, Carrollton Police Department, local businesses and Creekview HS students who all helped make this event a success,” Saleh said. “Our students and parents have a lot of fun during what can be a mundane and stressful part of the day. Who says you can’t have a party at morning drop off.”

More than 2500 walk to school day events occur annually across the United States. The event serves as a platform to raise awareness for making communities more walkable and bicycle-friendly. It encourages students to stay active and improve their overall physical health while also promoting a clean environment by lowering the effects of harmful pollutants caused by cars and buses.
